Digital Governance for Democratic Renewal

Panelists on a stage

The rapid expansion of technology companies has created a critical gap in democratic accountability.

Crucial decisions regarding speech, privacy, and market access are often made in private boardrooms rather than through accountable institutions, fueling polarization and eroding trust in public discourse.

To bridge this divide, Columbia World Projects has partnered with the Hertie School in Berlin on the Digital Governance for Democratic Renewal initiative. This transatlantic partnership connects researchers, practitioners, and policy-makers from Columbia and around the world to develop the regulatory frameworks necessary to govern Big Tech effectively.

Through convenings of leading voices in tech and policy, expert working groups, and actionable research, the Digital Governance initiative focuses on two goals: establishing clear protocols for researcher access to platform data and creating a roadmap for future digital market regulation.
