Global Thought Scholars

The Global Thought Scholars Program provides undergraduate students with the tools, mentorship, and collaborative experience needed to explore pressing global questions through transdisciplinary research.
Open to sophomores and juniors from Columbia College, General Studies, School of Engineering and Applied Science, and Barnard, the program selects students with strong academic records, curiosity for new ways of learning, and diverse backgrounds and perspectives. Over the course of an academic year, Global Thought Scholars engage in classroom study, research, and public presentation.
During the spring semester, Scholars enroll in Approaches to Global Thought, a seminar that explores cross-cutting methods for understanding global issues and developing collaborative research projects. Over the summer, they receive stipends to pursue team-based research. The program culminates in a fall symposium, where students present their findings to peers, faculty, and invited guests.
