M.A. in Global Thought

Today’s global challenges are redefining academic inquiry, reshaping public discourse, and disrupting political systems and business models. Yet, there is a shortage of thinkers, leaders, and professionals equipped to navigate the complexities of our interconnected and changing world.

Offered by the Committee on Global Thought, the Master of Arts in Global Thought addresses this gap by combining rigorous interdisciplinary analysis with the practical skills required to intervene in complex global systems.

Students are challenged to move beyond the theoretical, engaging directly with pressing global questions to develop applicable expertise. This approach ensures that graduates leave not just with the capacity to synthesize complex information, but also the ability to influence decision-making in policy, industry, or academia.

The program facilitates access to faculty from across Columbia's schools and departments, including members of the Committee on Global Thought. Students can customize their degree by drawing on resources and course offerings from across the University’s graduate schools, allowing them to build a unique academic and professional profile suited to their intellectual and career goals.
