Advancing the Nursing Workforce in Armenia and Greece

In the face of massive refugee influxes, health systems in Greece and Armenia are strained.
While nurses are often the first — and sometimes only — clinicians to treat these displaced communities, they often face barriers to provide essential care.
Columbia Global Center Athens is partnering with the Columbia University School of Nursing and the American University of Armenia to convene experts, policymakers, and frontline clinicians from Columbia and around the world. Together, under the Advancing the Nursing Workforce project they aim to design new policy frameworks that empower nurses to deliver critical primary and mental health services to displaced populations.
The project will organize two workshops: a one-day virtual workshop and a two-day in-person workshop in Athens. Both workshops will bring together 20 faculty members and students: seven from Columbia University, five from Armenia, five from Greece, and three from other European Union countries.
