Scholars-in-Residence Program at the Columbia Global Centers

Landscape of a city

The 2026 Scholars-in-Residence have been announced! Meet this year's cohort.

Columbia Global’s Scholars-in-Residence Program enables full-time Columbia University faculty and researchers to deepen their work through immersive residencies at one of the Columbia Global Centers. The program is designed to advance teaching, research, and professional collaboration while fostering meaningful engagement with the host region’s academic and cultural landscape.

Each scholar spends two to eight weeks at a Columbia Global Center, receiving up to $5,000 in travel support, accommodation, and project-related expenses.

Access and Support

During their residency, scholars gain access to workspace and on-the-ground support from Global Center staff. They are encouraged to collaborate with local and regional institutions, participate in events and seminars, and contribute to scholarly exchange that extends Columbia’s mission globally.

Upon returning, scholars share insights and outcomes with colleagues across the University, enriching Columbia’s global network of learning and innovation.

Residencies are hosted by Columbia Global Centers in Amman, Athens, Beijing, Istanbul, Mumbai, Nairobi, Paris, Rio de Janeiro, and Santiago. Projects may focus on research, educational programming, partnership development, or collaborative convenings that connect Columbia with local, regional, or global communities.

Eligibility

Eligible applicants include full-time Officers of Instruction and Officers of Research (excluding adjunct or visiting appointments). Prior experience in the region or with a Center is not required.
