Columbia Global – Turkish Philanthropy Funds Resilience Initiative Awards

Columbia Global established a Global Resilience Fund in 2023 to respond to today’s overlapping crises with more than short-term relief.

The Fund works with local institutions to leverage Columbia expertise and resources to support recovery and resiliency efforts, as well as research and scholarship into the causes of the crises and potential novel, feasible, and scalable solutions.

It supports projects that deliver immediate recovery while laying the groundwork for long-term resilience. Through partnerships with local institutions and Columbia scholars, the Fund helps communities at risk rebuild stronger, adapt faster, and prepare for the future.

Since June 2025, the Fund has benefited from the support of Turkish Philanthropy Funds, and the 2026 tranche will be called Columbia Global – Turkish Philanthropy Funds Resilience Initiative Awards.

The first two sets of awards were made to projects that advanced recovery and resilience work in the regions of Türkiye affected by devastating earthquakes in February 2023. Those projects:

  • Supported adolescent mental health and trauma recovery in post-earthquake Turkey.
  • Used digital technology and AI to preserve cultural heritage at risk of loss.
  • Strengthened community resilience and disaster preparedness in vulnerable regions.
  • Explored new models for public health, displacement response, and urban risk planning.
