Where New Thinking Builds Bridges: A Year of Thinking + Doing

How can we show students that tackling the most urgent problems in the world requires a new breed of education?
“Global Thought” is both an approach and a mindset. It considers complex global questions by intentionally crossing boundaries — between academic disciplines, geographic regions, and cultural perspectives.
Th Committee on Global Thought's intensive master's in Global Thought program focuses on global governance, political economy and culture — issues that often do not fit neatly into a single discipline of study. This unique degree brings together the social sciences, humanities and STEM fields. It demands students learn how to see various angles when studying an intricate problem, exposing them to a diverse array of teachers and classmates from across Columbia and the world.
The MA in Global Thought is just one of dozens of learning opportunities offered by Columbia Global, as we work to provide the next generation with new ways to think about the world's problems.
In 2024, more than 900 people participated in one of our educational programs.

Each of these educational programs (including an art program for displaced youth in Uganda and various study programs at our Global Centers around the world) provides students with a global perspective and experience. They lead students to the right questions and give them the tools to seek new answers
"I chose CGT because I thought it would give me the most broad perspective, also just a diversity of perspectives... I did want this diversity of thought and to be challenged, and to be in a cohort of people from all over the world.”
- Nis Hamid, (MA in Global Thought, 2023)
