Columbia Knowledge Series on Sustainability in India Seen by Over a Million People

Columbia Global Center Mumbai's partnership with The Free Press Journal creates a new platform for Columbia University experts on environmental sustainability, combining 400,000 print readers with 800,000 digital subscribers.
Think reaching over a million minds about sustainability could create change in India?
So do we.
Columbia Global, through its Global Center in Mumbai, has joined forces with one of India's most established news institutions, The Free Press Journal (FPJ) — a 95-year-old newspaper that has been shaping public discourse in Mumbai and beyond. With 400,000 print readers and more than 800,000 YouTube subscribers, FPJ will bring Columbia's expertise to an expansive audience with the newly created Columbia Knowledge Series.
From small-scale solar innovations to citywide energy transformations, from philosophical frameworks to grassroots implementation — the series brings Columbia University's leading minds into conversation with FPJ's vast readership. Through 30-minute in-depth interviews, Columbia experts from engineering, philosophy, public policy and beyond will explore critical sustainability challenges facing India and South Asia. The series is part of FPJ's ambitious Sustainability Network initiative, a multi-platform program designed to drive awareness and action on environmental issues.
The series launched with Columbia Engineering Professor Vijay Modi discussing India's solar energy evolution and the critical transition from small-scale solutions to kilowatt-level systems that can power homes, farms, and cities more efficiently. Additional episodes will feature faculty experts Gautam Jain, Shivaram Rajagopal, Akeel Bilgrami, and Ruth DeFries sharing perspectives on climate resilience, clean energy, biodiversity conservation and equitable climate action. New episodes will be released bi-weekly on FPJ's digital platforms.
