Black Lives Matter: What Movements Want From Parties

How can civic power be built in the midst of democratic backsliding?
Almost seven years after the 2020 George Floyd Protests, this retrospective brings together two leading scholars and one key organizer of the movement.
Hosted by Columbia World Projects, this public event will explore the tension between mobilization and organization, questions around policy implementation and movement sustainability, and the power and limits of social movements in their efforts to prompt democratic participation, shifts in U.S. institutionalized politics, and deeper engagement with the party system.
